The War Came Home With Him
For the week of October 9, 2016
How does war affect the family? This week, the second show in our series for Veterans’ Voices Month in Minnesota, author Catherine Madison discusses her memoir “The War Came Home With Him” and her father’s experience as a POW in Korea.
Guest: Catherine Madison, author, “The War Came Home With Him”
- Part 1 – 13:17
Growing up, Catherine Madison knew her father was a war hero though he never talked about his POW experience. It wasn’t until after her father died and Madison found an envelope titled “The Whole Story” that she understood his harrowing journey.
- Part 2 – 13:18
Writing the memoir brought a better understanding of her father and their strained relationship. “Just because he was a hero didn’t mean he wasn’t also a flawed human being, as vulnerable as rest of us,” Madison says.
