The Benefits of Walking at Work

For the week of May 4th, 2014

Many of us spend hours every week sitting down on the job. A new study shows that moving around a bit more—or even standing at your desk—is not only better for your health but can also make you more productive. On this week’s Access Minnesota, University of Minnesota researcher Dr. Avner Ben-Ner tells us how treadmill work stations boosted employee fitness and improved both the quantity and quality of work at a Twin Cities company.

  • Guest: Avner Ben-Ner, Professor in the Center for Human Resources and Labor Studies in the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota
  • Issues: Past research showing the benefits of physical activity; Whether those benefits could be produced in a typical workplace environment; Ways workplaces and home offices can be improved to encourage exercise and movement; Possible creative benefits of exercising at work
